1968 remains the most extraordinary single year of the 20th century. In no year did so many events erupt, in so many far-flung corners of the globe, as did 1968. What made the year unique was just how widespread were the actions. Every month brought new headlines about another world locale—from New York to Paris, Chicago to Prague, Atlantic City to Mexico City—often sparked by a local issue but seemingly connected to the larger undercurrents circling the world.

We will explore the global sweep of 1968, looking at the themes that bound the national and international movements together—race, gender, youth culture, foreign policy and anticolonialism, American politics, and more.
